About this deal

The advantages are that, since it doesn’t use a lithium battery, you can pack it in your carry-on luggage. If you’re in the market for one of these cost-busting appliances, keep reading for everything you need to know about Black+Decker’s heated airer. Drying clothes is a bit like cooking – if you whack up the temperature, your garments will dry faster but they’ll feel slightly crisp on the outside.

The main difference with a heated airer is that you need to plug it in, so it’s worth checking there’s an accessible socket close to where you plan to position yours when in use. To address comments about its sturdiness, yes it may wobble slightly, and I mean slightly, but it is very light weight and I much prefer that than having a solid heavy metal thing. It fared better with bedding (dry in two hours twenty minutes) than with clothes, which took four hours exactly. They can also be made L-shaped, so that you can use the Minky against the wall and only hang clothes on one side of it - a nice touch. It folds away neatly for easy storage, while its flat design offers versatility and can hold ample washing.

I was really impressed with the speed and efficiency of the Black + Decker airer and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, especially to anyone taking their first steps into the world of heated airers. However, you do have to wait a little longer for clothes to dry on this than you would do on airers that have covers, as not trapping heat near the garment means drying time can be twice as long. It performed well in our tests, with a consistent, even temperature, and proved particularly effective when it came to bedsheets, cutting drying time down to just two hours and four minutes (air drying traditionally takes around four hours and 30 minutes).

I'm not the main user of this item but I am reliably informed that it performs an awful lot better than a radiator and hangers. It takes up a lot of space when its wings are out and its temperature fluctuated a tad, but this didn’t impact its performance or its energy consumption, using an impressively low eight pence an hour on test. This makes the Aerative a super-fast fix if you get caught in a downpour and need to be bone dry in time for an appointment. Whether it senses loads of clothes that are wet and gets hotter, or whether it's just the product performance itself. With three tiers and 30 heated rails, it can hold 15kg of laundry, which works out as about two full loads of most standard washing machines.
