About this deal

No me podía imaginar como Darren Shan podría mezclar el ajedrez con la historia, pero me sorprendió el como lo hizo. However, he shows no fear when confronted with all the pieces of the Kah-Gash, who had just destroyed all the other Demon Masters, because he trusted Bec and believed that she would keep her word and protect him.

We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. When he mentally heals enough to cope, he finds himself sheltered by his long-lost uncle, a man who knows more than he's telling, but who is willing to tell it as soon as Grubbs wants to listen. He then transports into the Original Board (taken from Drust in Bec) upon Bec's request, and secretely makes a deal with her. One of Lord Loss' most notable traits, which confirms that he does have some sense of honour, is that he never lies and whenever he makes a promise he would stick to it. Grubbs lies to Bill-E, telling him that Dervish used a calming spell to try to cure his lycanthropy. It's great to see a father figure who is not portrayed as either evil and sadistic or a total whiny useless Care Bear.

This book with it’s eerie, suspense-filled plot and a brilliantly worked plot twist was reminiscent of the best of R.As Grubbs begins to settle down, he meets and befriends Bill-E Spleen, another orphan who visits Dervish often to learn magic. This was done in a really bold way as Shan completely focused on establishing these new characters in later books, with Erikson-esque departures from the main storyline. I must say, I do still find that my favorite of Darren Shan's series is The Darren Shan Saga, but only one book in it would be a little biased of me to be saying this.

There are some disturbing/violent scenes throughout which are described in great detail so if you really hate gore I'd suggest skipping, but if you don't particularly mind gore I'd give it a go as it does feature a good story. If you don't like the ideas of demons, magic, and walking, talking embodiments of evil, you shouldn't read this book.
