About this deal

As detailed above, this DVD does have a number of little editing changes supervised by Sam during the remastering process, but they are professionally done and most people would be hard pressed to spot them. The Trilogy also has some exclusive extras, some of which are pretty dodgy, but still worth noting at least. The Incredibly Strange Film Show As Jonathon Ross' fame and fortune have increased over the years, his ability to afford a hairdresser seems to have decreased. There was also a bit of business where Raimi made a few "corrections" to the film, fixing black mattes that didn't totally blend in with the background and erasing producer Rob Tapert who was accidentally visible in the background of one shot.

These have now been brought together into a boxset with a new fourth disc that, as a package, will prove highly tempting for fans. The DVD comes in a replica Book Of The Dead illustrated by Tom Sullivan, and although a mass produced item, the quality is really still quite decent. Even though some colours have a bit more pop than what is on the Elite disc, it’s not my preferred image.

Since I can’t count how many times I’ve watched this movie and shown it to countless others, watching it today is enjoyable, but not as much as it was in the past. Of course, that's fairly academic now, as their 2010 blu includes both transfers and blows them and all previous editions out of the water. The limited edition is a single disc release that only includes an audio commentary (and some bonus trailers for other AB releases) for an extra. Life After Death: The Ladies of the Evil Dead (15min) - this featurette tells of how the three ladies in this film decided to get together and learn about horror conventions and how to (make money and) be guest stars signing autographs just as Bruce Campbell has over the past million years. It had an all new transfer, the old extras once again carried over, plus a whole bunch of new stuff, finally giving this film the definitive special edition it deserves. The above list only covers the list of visual tweaks (there would likely be a long list of audio tweaks too), but that aside, it's still an excellent presentation.

Note: Our refurbished grades - Pristine, Very Good and Good - are solely based on the cosmetic condition of the phone. The small horizontal image loss and large vertical gain means the open matte DVD transfer still probably comes out as the superior framing option overall, although the outstanding vibracy and sharpness of the new Blu-Ray transfer is by far the best Evil Dead II has ever looked. When their first target has been to reach peace, they should fight restlessly as they find themselves surrounded by an evil force that turns its victims into heartless monsters.

They're all pretty great in their own right, so let's not waste anymore time and the best available versions of the first two Evil Dead flicks. Products labelled '*item fulfilled by Exertis on behalf of hmv' will be supplied to you directly by Exertis via their approved couriers. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. Most of this stuff is pretty dry, and it doesn't help that it's mostly shot in low video quality; although some of these guys come off better than others. For the most part, only the older, unmatted versions seem to have the pre-fix versions; but the changes aren't exactly as offensive as CGIing Jar Jar Binks into scenes or something. It's limited to 2600 numbered units worldwide (2500 + 100 press copies), so is quite rare and will be more expensive to track down. So if you have a strong preference for one version or the other, make sure you're getting what you want; but conveniently, it's cheap and easy to get both in the same package. Which one to get comes down to personal taste (see further down for more on the fullscreen/widescreen debate). And now, they've improved things even further with their UHD (the blu-ray it's packaged with, by the way, is just another copy of the 25th Anniversary Edition).
