About this deal

Nordés Atlantic Galician Gin is a rather intriguing Spanish gin made with an Albariño-grape-based spirit, rather than your more commonly seen grain-based spirit, along with 12 botanicals including lemon peels, hibiscus, liquorice and eucalyptus. With tonic, the journey is lengthened a little but the flavours aren’t much different from when tasted neat.

A careful selection of the best neutral alcohols, together with the use of white Albariño Galician grapes and with the presence of 6 native Galician herbs such as sage, lemon verbena, laurel, peppermint, eucalyptus and glasswort. This product is hand packed onsite by Bottled and Boxed, and is not affiliated with any other brand. I was introduced to this gin in Spain as part of a gin tonica, which is a very Spanish take on the gin and tonic - with fruit, both dried and fresh, herbs, and more added. The 6 local botanicals are essential in giving Nordés its unique aroma, which evokes the green freshness that is typical of Galicia. With the Atlantic Galician Gin from the Spanish producer Nordés, a crystal clear gin flows into the swirled glass in your hand. It is made in a small distillery in Vedra, close to Santiago de Compostela, with spirit from the local Albariño grape and 11 botanicals ingredients (6 from Galicia) including juniper, sage, samphire, tea, ginger and hibiscus giving a uniquely fresh and aromatic character. Nordés has a truly unique character as far as premium gins go, made possible by ingredients which grow wild in Galicia and capture the essence of the Atlantic.

And just three weeks after I carried a bottle home, Nordes came to the States, not in a suitcase, but via distributors. Nordés unique character is inspired by its origin in Galicia and the freshness of the Atlantic ocean. It was an excellent gin when served that way, and it’s still an excellent gin in a regular gin and tonic. And in fact it was - so much so that for those looking for a less sweet version of this drink, could easily dial back on the Luxardo and rely on the Nordes to even up some of that flavor.

There’s an intense candied sweetness too with a subtle hum of juniper in the background, just to let you know you’re drinking gin.

At first I thought maybe this was floral enough to be considered a floral gin, but the more I drank it the more I became convinced that this isn’t a floral gin, despite the handful of floral notes that were there.
