James has moved from the pokey room and now shares a production space with the team from Port of Leith Distillery (he also worked with them to develop their gin, Lind and Lime) – and he now distils Achroous on a 500L still. The success of the gin means it’s now available across the UK and they hope to be exporting soon as well.

The company ethos is built on standing out, doing things differently and being innovative, and when you see the striking neon Achroous bottle on a shelf, the boldness of The Electric Spirit Co. is clear.

First off, all seven of the botanicals are weighed out according to the recipe. the ingredients in Achroous are all added at the same time, so are weighed out together. A bizarre botanical that isn't even a true peppercorn, these dry little husks have incredibly vibrant floral and lemon sherbet notes. With none of the heat associated with peppercorns, they give the gin an incredible aroma. Fennel This Saturday, EventScotland are hosting riders from the British Cycling team at Glasgow's Engine Works, where they'll vie for the coveted rainbow jersey as part of the 2023 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships live and in person, bridging the gap between the real-world physical effort of riders and the virtual race on Zwift. Their flagship gin, LBD, is a newcomer to the Scottish gin scene, launching in May 2020. Launching their first gin in August 2019, Tobermory Distillery can draw on over 200 years of distilling experience. Established in 1798, the distillery is famous for its whisky and cleverly marry this history into their gin, with a dash of new make spirit from their whisky stills added to the still before distillation, almost as a ‘liquid botanical’.

We bagged the gold in both the Scottish Dry and Consumer categories, and silver for our G&T, which is phenomenal, but that fourth medal is the cherry on the cake. Barra natives, Michael and Katie Morrison founded Isle of Barra Distillers in 2017.
