About this deal

Shai is a forger, meaning that she can rewrite an object's history, thus making it into a new object. Such magic is considered taboo within the Empire, that is until they find themselves enlisting Shai's help to try and forge the soul of their fallen Emperor, Ashravan. A wonderful world, a unique adventure, and a beautifully intelligent leading lady, what more could you want? 5*s One of the best Sanderson short stories I've ever read too! El alma del emperador’ es mucho At the beginning of The Emperor’s Soul, the young Emperor Ashravan is braindead after an assassination attempt which also claims the life of his beloved wife. The crime is apparently an inside job, committed by one of his corrupt council members vying for power. Es increíble la capacidad de Sanderson para crear sistemas de magia (o poderes) tan bien hilados, originales y divertidos, la imaginación a la hora de crear historias y lo completos que son sus personajes. Y poco más tengo que decir.

She was nearly there with this project. The emperor’s soul spread out before her, with only some few corners still shadowed. She wanted to see it through; she longed to find out if she could make him live again.Brandon began forming ideas for "The Emperor's Soul" during a trip to the National Palace Museum in Taiwan. The tojang, or red stamps that adorned much of the artwork, stood out to him. In addition to the stamps of the artists who created the work, scholars and nobility who particularly liked the work would add their stamp to it, as well. From these stamps came the idea of Soulstamps, capable of rewriting the nature of an object's existence.

The writing is everything you would expect from a Sanderson, it's mind blowing and full of beautiful vivid imagery. The magic system is unique and different from his normal type, I love the whole concept of making a 'new soul'. I swear I just love Sanderson so much. And I love this book. Please everyone go and read it! It's so wonderfully glorious. side note: this book is set in Sel (same world as Elantris, you do not need to read Elantris first) Shai is a forger, a person able to create exact copies of anything through magic and an understanding of its history and its pieces. Imprisoned for the theft of priceless artifacts, leaving fakes in their place, Shai awaits the day of her execution. When the Arbiters, those who rule in the Emperor's name, come to her with a proposition, she has little choice to accept.

Fantasy Books Of The Year

Now, she's got to do this in secret because the dude's been left a vegetable due to a failed assassination attempt. It was all fantastic: the characters, the complex motivations, the layered storytelling, the intricate magical system built on Chinese-type stamps. Instead, the challenge consumes Shai, and we learn a lot about who she is, why she does what she does, and how her talents work as she works away at the problem. No simple thief or charlatan, Shai considers herself an artist, and we see just how accurate that appraisal can be as she approaches the Forging of the Emperor's soul.

When Shai is caught replacing the Moon Scepter with her nearly flawless forgery, she must bargain for her life. An assassin has left the Emperor Ashravan without consciousness, a circumstance concealed only by the death of his wife. If the emperor does not emerge after his 100-day mourning period, the rule of the Heritage Faction will be forfeit and the empire will fall into chaos. This book is not so much action as it is a work of philosophical and psychological suspense. I say philosophical in a specific way. Sanderson does not engage in the level of commentary that he does in the *Mistborn* novels (not even that of *The Alloy of Law* the similarly short *Mistborn* novella). His commentary applicable to our society is brief. This isn't a preachy book at all. What I mean is that the story of Shai and how she uses her magical “art” to set about restoring the Emperor and escaping is tied up in philosophical and psychological aspects of that specific plot. It really is interesting. It's like some films that have a person mostly in one room undergoing days, weeks, or months of adversity, but the difference is that this story has a happy ending. I hope that's not too much of a spoiler to say that. ;) Then there's Ivy, a whizz at interrogation and deducing people's intentions and emotions, Tobias who is unreasonably clever, and many more.
