About this deal

When Evelyn comes to the end of telling her story, she throws Monique with a major revelation that affects her personally and she is now left with making painful decisions of her own, and again exposing Evelyn’s selfishness and treacherous behaviour. She grew up in a poor Cuban family in Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan. Her mother dies when Evelyn is young, leaving her alone with her abusive father.

evelyn‘s story is so interesting & intriguing. i was reading this book all day long, unable to put it down and when i had to, all i thought about was when i could continue reading it. reading about her schemes and deceives.. just incredible. i was so invested, rooting for her and just fell in love with her like every other person in this book.

When she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated. Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career. Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Everyone and their mother was talking up this book and while I agree that it is engaging and scandalous (in a good way)...I don't know. I just expected more from it. Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for sending the advanced reading copy of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Once I sat down yesterday to read, I found I really couldn’t stop – so absorbed was I in Evelyn’s story, how exactly and why she came to have those seven husbands, and become the powerhouse sex symbol she was in those glamorous Hollywood days. I read the bulk of this in just one day! Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life.

Evelyn’s first husband. Evelyn seduces and marries Ernie to get a ride to Hollywood and divorces him when the studio asks her to. Do you understand what I'm telling you? When you're given an opportunity to change your life, be ready to do whatever it takes to make it happen. The world doesn't give things, you take things. If you learn one thing from me, it should probably be that.” Biedenharn, I., & Biedenharn, I. (n.d.). See the Cover for Taylor Jenkins Reid's 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo'. There were so many things I felt conflicted about and even now, after more than a week has passed, I still didn’t manage to sort out my feelings and I still don’t know what to do with them. Maybe I’ll have to get used to the idea that to think about Evelyn Hugo and her seven husbands will always make me feel conflicted and that there’s no such thing as making peace with an ending like that. How Long It Takes to Read

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo made me have a great time: it made me cry (a lot), it made me laugh, and it made me think. The characters are so complicated and complex in a way I hadn’t read before, they were so beautifully created. My special shout-out goes to Harry who completely owned my heart, and the amazing twists we had for the plot were just the cherry on top of the cake. there is a plot twist that occurs that the end of the book that i really did not appreciate. the twist itself was not bad but given the main character's identity in relation to a deceased person's identity i was honestly appalled. you would think a POC understands POC struggles and wouldn't frame a fellow POC but what do i know. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo opens with rookie reporter Monique Grant settling into her new life after the sudden end to her engagement, when she is suddenly handed the rare opportunity to interview Hollywood actress Evelyn Hugo. Hugo, a glamorous icon notorious for her mysterious aura, is finally ready to tell the world her truth, and hires Grant to write her biography. Grant is astounded by the offer, knowing she is practically invisible in the world of journalism. Hugo’s story begins in the 1950’s, when she makes the decision to move to Los Angeles as a teenager. Without a doubt, this is my favourite book of all time now. I have never had such a big emotional reaction to a work of literature, and I highly doubt another book will be able to come close for a long time. I finished this book wishing for more literature on Evelyn Hugo and wanting to watch her films, which unfortunately do not exist. A reread is definitely on the horizon for me, and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since closing this gem.

The writing was simple yet perfect, and the storytelling of Taylor Jenkins Reid was absolutely unique, original, and fit it perfectly. After this book, I am dying to go read another book by her. Work written by people who have lived the story is always going to have a beauty and honesty that cannot be matched by someone writing outside of their own life.tjr makes me feel like i know these characters, as if they were real and this story is true. i think it’s mainly because we read about evelyn’s life story and not just a small part of it. we see and feel it all, which makes this book feel so real. i can’t say much more about the characters without spoilering too much so the next part is going to be full of spoilers. don’t read any further if you haven’t read the book and are still planning to. Evelyn Hugo a. k. a. Evelyn Elena Herrera is one of the most portrayed characters, a daughter of Cuban immigrants, raised in poverty. She’s not only beautiful, alluring but there’s something different about her: her energy is vivid, radiating. She knows what she wants for her life and she’s competitive and determined enough how she may get it by leaving her life in Hell’s Kitchen and moving to Los Angeles to become one of the movie stars, dying her hair, exposing her slender body, looking directly at the camera with her almond shaped eyes under her long lashes till the director tells her “cut”.
