Dulux Trade Satinwood combines the elegant mid-sheen finish of Satinwood paint with the convenience of an oil-based wood and metal paint in a single winning formula. This solvent-based product provides a tough and durable coat that can withstand repeated washing and will enhance the beauty of your home. Typically eggshell is more forgiving when applying and doesn’t need quite so much painting experience to get a decent finish — ideal for novice DIYers especially when painting woodwork. What Looks Better, Eggshell or Satin? Ideally use a cloth and warm soapy water to wipe clean both. But eggshell’s slightly rougher surface means it will typically take longer to get it clean. If you have a stubborn stain use well diluted sugar soap, but be gentle. Which is Easier to Apply?

Pale yellow, beige, cream and off-whites represent only a small selection of shades to consider. Slate grey is a popular contemporary choice that pairs well with light grey walls. It is suitable for doors, windows, skirting boards, furniture, cupboards, kitchen cabinets, wall panels and radiators. Can be applied directly onto bare or previously painted wood, metal, melamine and MDF surfaces without using a Primer first. Ultra-durable and resists everyday stains and scratches. When it comes to application there isn’t a great deal of difference between how to paint a room with eggshell and satin. They have very similar viscosity, but this can vary from brand to brand.Applied easily with a brush or roller the paint although oil-based doesn’t yellow easily and stays brilliant white for a long-lasting finish. Blush pink, ivory and magnolia are ideal choices if the walls are painted in similar or contrasting shades. The painting method changes based on the surface to paint. On small surfaces such as window frames, soak the paintbrush in the product, remove excess paint, and apply from top to bottom with a firm and continuous movement. Prepare the surface before painting with sugar soap or any household cleaning products and let dry. Open up any windows to ensure there is plenty of ventilation in the room. This paint is low odour but it does have a slight smell to it.

What is Eggshell paint? A question that we get asked alot and there are not stupid questions here on DIY Boss. Just helpful advice and no judgement. If the surface is new or bare, priming is essential. Choose a suitable product that is specifically formulated for either wood or metal and apply it as instructed. For the best results, it’s recommended to work on small sections at a time to make sure the coat is applied in a thin and even layer. Fix all drips before moving on to the next section and continue the procedure until the full surface is covered. When the surface is clean and dry, seal all areas not to be painted with the painter’s tape and lay a fabric drop cloth on the floor to minimise drip damage.

Eggshell is great in period homes and works well on woodwork and walls, while satin is typically suited to a more modern home.
