About this deal

Mold on soil is generally not something you need to worry about. It’s harmless, but it can point to the fact that the soil is staying wet for too long, which can lead to root rot, which is why it’s good to do the things I mentioned, to have the soil dry out faster. If you are new to plants, you may panic the first time you notice the white mold growing on terracotta pots. However, there is no need to worry. The white mold will not invade and affect the plant’s growth, especially when it has just appeared on the pot. While the white mold you see on the pots will not cause the death of your plants, it may still damage the plant in the long run. Sealing terracotta pots for painting is an optional step, and it’s totally up to you if you want to do it. The second and comparatively harsh option you can use is bleach. It is usually a diluted solution of sodium hypochlorite (a discoloring agent) used for various purposes. Take bleach and water in a 1:20 ratio to clean the white mold growing on terracotta plants. Fill it up in a spray bottle. Since bleach is a strong agent, we recommend taking out the plant and keeping it temporarily in another container until you clean the pots. The next step was to get a little bit of paint on your wet cloth. Be sure to get the excess paint off of your cloth by wiping it on a wet paper towel.

These pots are budget-friendly and less-expensive options. Although they are affordable, they do not look cheap. New Hastings Glazed Terracotta Pots like the Hastings Cream Cone (pictured above) looking good on the garden patio. We hope this article will help you solve the white mold problem in your terracotta pots. Moreover, with the prevention measures, you can also limit mold growth in the pots. Water based primers won’t completely seal the pot, which will allow it to breath better than it can when completely sealed. Sealing Terracotta Pots After Painting But there are a few things to do before you start painting terracotta pots. So, before I jump into the steps, let’s talk about what kind of paint to use.

The bubbles occur as the peroxide releases oxygen on the surface of the mold. If you do not notice bubbles, the hydrogen peroxide has probably lost its effectiveness (usually from light exposure).

When the dry pots are ready for plants, then you get to have some fun deciding what you will want to put in them! If you catch the mold in its early stages, try spot cleaning (Method 1). Spot cleaning does not require you to remove the plant from the pot. So it’s less work for you and less stressful for the plant.

Waterproofing clay pots affects their breathability. That means that the soil will retain moisture much longer than it would in an untreated pot.
